Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on August 23.
Seven TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Sunday at Ballarat, Taree, Sunshine Coast, Kalgoorlie, Devenport, Moe and Nowra.
Taree: Race 7 @ 4:20pm
Pace looks strong where Arabolini and Jazzland will forge to the lead closely followed by Cogliere. MONEGAL (7) has reached a new level this campaign. Shock winner in town first-up on heavy ground and her runs subsequent prove that it was no fluke. Earning respect wherever she goes and looks one of the main dangers. 2000m is a small query but she's never been going better. JAZZLAND (4) is a player. Not beaten far in the Coffs Harbour Cup most recently. He doesn't want it too heavy but should lead more comfortably in this contest. Will give a sight. HIGH OPINION (2) is racing as well as ever and while giving weight away, he still commands respect. SELECTION: #7 Monegal gets the nod in the Cup. Backing to win.

Sunshine Coast: Race 5 @ 3:05pm
Expecting After The Storm to find the lead and set an even tempo. MAD IRISH TYCOON (6) is rock hard fit. Better effort at Rockhampton last start when runner-up. Stanley is 3/3 aboard him and he should get his chance on the home track. IMA TEAMBOY (3) should be hitting his straps third-up. Bumped into a smart one here most recently. Progressing well and should be given strong consideration. YEAHNAH (5) should get every chance from the inside draw. No recent wins is a knock but he's clearly good enough. AFTER THE STORM (8) next in line. SELECTION: #6 Mad Irish Tycoon gets the nod.
Kalgoorlie: Race 3 @ 4:15pm
Sirius Magic, Roseicapilla and The Beach are all candidates to lead. DEVINE BEAST (9) made a ratings spike winning the Maiden here third up off city runs. She's switched to the Fernie yard on a 14-day return and comes to peak now. She will get a soft run from the rail and won't have to improve much to win again. SIRIUS MAGIC (1) is fast and has folded up the last two in stronger races in town. He's back in grade and trip and expect him to make the finish with a good ride from the 3kg claimer. MOORUMBINE (3) was plain two-back but the form around that reads very well. The high-stable striker goes on today and he's a definite chance. FIRST STRIKE (4) has won and placed the last two and is also a contender. SELECTION: Backing #9 Devine Beast to win.
Ballarat: Race 3 @ 2:20pm
A number run along and it should be run at a good clip. HOME BY MIDNIGHT (3) resumed in Open grade at Flemington off the Adelaide Cup and has trialled up for the Maiden hurdle. Pateman's booking says he's ready to go and he's likely to prove too nippy. WAZUZU (7) won the 64 on the flat and then didn't have much luck as favourite in the 78 over 3100m as favourite. He's likely to be well prepared for the hurdle and needs to be kept very safe. PEACE BROTHER (5) ran favourite at this first hurdle start and pulled up with an issue. He's back after 35 days with some gear changes and a bounce is likely. ZOFFANY ROCKET (8) may be next best off the 58 flat win. SELECTION: Backing #3 Home By Midnight.
