Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 9th September 2020

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on September 9

Racecourse : Canterbury Park.
Racecourse : Canterbury Park.

Five TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Canterbury, Sandown, Eagle Farm, Belmont & Murray Bridge.

Canterbury: Race 5 @ 3:45pm

Expecting Liberty Sun and Axe to find the lead but plenty of pressure over this journey. Race has been absolutely cruelled by scratchings with Plaquette, Hulk, Al Mah Haha and Plonka all absent. AXE (6) shapes as the key beneficiary. Ran third to Plaquette during that Kensington event. Brings what looks the dominant form line into this contest. MISSION RIVER (11) showed good improvement on his first up outing when breaking maiden status at Gosford 12 days ago. Well bred and warrants respect. PERIGORD (1) won well here first up. Appeals dropping back in grade after being safely accounted for in his past two runs at Saturday level. TAKEN EVERYTHING (10) next best after two solid trials in readiness.  SELECTIONS: Siding with Axe.

Eagle Farm: Race 1 @ 1:10pm

Expecting Shamrock Lu to take up the running at a genuine tempo. PERNELL (3) put the writing on the wall last start when he closed well to be beaten narrowly over this distance at the Gold Coast. Very fit now after two runs back from a spell. Should be able to cross from a wide gate and take up a forward position. The red-hot Baylee Nothdurft is a key engagement - he has ridden 20 winners in his last 50 rides. ABOVE THE LOT (6) wound up strongly to finish a close 3rd over 1310m at Lismore last time out. Continues to improve at each appearance this prep. Hard to toss with a perfect run out of gate one. SHAMROCK LU (4) showed pace on debut and held on for 3rd over 1200m at Doomben a fortnight ago. Winning chance with any natural improvement but is very skinny in early markets. WITHOUT CHOICE (5) also placed on debut last start. Meets a stiffer field this time but cannot be ruled out.   SELECTIONS: Backing #3 Pernell to topple the short-priced favourite.

Murray Bridge: Race 2 @ 2:25pm

Expecting Nakheel to lead Ironical at a moderate tempo. NAKHEEL (7) led and missed a nose here second-up making a ratings spike. The extra trip shouldn't bother and she should be winning for the sharp Will Clarken yard on the 7-day return. EAGLE EYES (5) debuts for the leading barn and draws low. Expect him to have good ability and be ready to go with Vorster booked. Watch the late market very closely. IRONICAL (2) needed the run resuming and has plenty up the sleeve. The longer trip suits and expect quick improvement. FERGO'S BOYS (1) is a stablemate who did enough on debut to fill a slot. SELECTIONS: A fitter #7 Nakheel sets a decent standard.

Sandown: Race 8 @ 4:30pm

A strong tempo from the outset as a number pushing forward. Diode and Do You Reckon and Full Of Theories can lead the way. A terrific contest. RICH HIPS (11) won easily here first-up and then missed a lip at Caulfield as favourite before disappointing back here heavily-bet. Prepared to forgive that and he can bounce today on the good track with Zahra going on. DIODE (1) seeks the hat-trick off the big win here in stronger. Runs along and the 2kg claim helps in the weight department. SCANTOON (13) deserved the CL1 win and did it by 5.3L Goes wet and dry and is a player with the weight relief. THINK 'N' FLY (2) resumes off the Group 3 gelded and with Oliver up. Draws well and elevate if the late money comes. DO YOU RECKON (7) was heavily-bet blitzing the 64 field from the front. Needs a good ride from the 3kg claimer pushing forward but has each way claims. SELECTIONS: This is a strong betting program with value to be had all day. #11 Rich Hips looks a decent each way play in Race 8.
