Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 5.

Canterbury: Race 5 @ 3:45pm

Strong early tempo with several going forward, headed by Bobby Dee and Mount Tabora. COTERIE (4) has improved at each appearance this prep, culminating in a tough win over 1600m at Warwick Farm last start. Tackling a slightly better race today but with added fitness can win again. SAVIGNE (7) won at the midweekers two starts back then failed to measure up in Saturday company over 1500m at Rosehill five weeks ago. Trialled since to keep her up to the mark. Loves Canterbury so worth another chance. MOUNT TABORA (1) has been handy on the bend but failed to finish off at all three runs this prep. Dropping back from Saturday racing to midweek company which could spark improvement. LOVE SHACK BABY (6) was very poor last start. Five-time winner at this trip and drops in weight so worth another chance. SUGGESTED PLAY: #4 Coterie clearly on top after a couple of key scratchings.

Musswellbrook: Race 7 @ 5:09pm

Spirit Of Elijah expected to cross from wide out and lead at a good clip. MANDALONG TAPIT (1) finished strongly to get up for second last start at Armidale over 1400m when second up from a spell. Should be at his top now and is ready to win. SUPER (2) finished midfield last start at Newcastle over 1200m after coming from last on the bend. Jumps up in journey today which suits. Down in grade and looks sure to feature. WICKMO (8) failed to run a strong 1500m at Rosehill last time after a close third over 1280m at this track the run prior. One to consider in this far more suitable race. POLISHED PENNY (10) doesn't win out of turn but a terrific second in a Rosehill Highway two runs back is a very good form reference. SUGGESTED PLAY: #1 Mandalong Tapit is a nice each-way bet to close the day.

Echuca: Race 7 @ 4:30pm

Good early tempo with City Rogue, Orazio and La Maestra prominent along with Smart Design. SMART DESIGN (3) led and demolished the Maidens fourth up off the three placings. He has the speed to make short work of the sticky gate and clearly rates to repeat keeping the handy claim. SPEARS (11) was back to his best winning this grade at Kilmore. Hit the line hard and looks a decent each way chance with the claim assisting. KOOTARA (9) resumes off a string of placings for the new yard and is up to this at best. Comes in well with the 3kg claim and keep a very close eye on the late betting. CELERITATE REGEM (2) resumes and goes fresh. Is capable and is also a market watch. SUGGESTED PLAY: Keen on Smart Design.
