Its Derby Day at Flemington and one of the best cards of racing for the season is backed up by the Golden Eagle at Rosehill and meetings at Doomben, Ascot and Morphettville.

Flemington: Race 9 @ 5:10pm

Cup Week starts with one of the great days on the Australian racing calendar - Derby Day. Nine deep races, loaded with chances, gives us plenty to work with here at The Melbourne Mail and despite that we have managed to get all the way through to the last to find our best on the card - the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained California Zimbol. Rosehill: Race 1 @ 12:05pm

A bog track faces punters on Saturday with over 70mm already hitting Rosehill with further rain predicted on the day. Always tricky when that is the case, though I think you just have to pick your marks. Doomben: Race 4 @ 1:11pm

Two trial wins will have capable sprinter Ruuca ready to strike first up at Doomben on Saturday. The Team Edmonds gelding raced in better company last campaign and was last seen when beaten just 2.7L in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas. Ruuca has been gelded since then and he has won one of his two tries on a wet track, the defeat coming in the Group 1 Coolmore Stakes in Melbourne. Read More

Ascot: Race 8 @ 5:00pm

The Asian Beau Stakes backs up from a rough Northerly Stakes and that surely can't be the form going forward. Inspirational Girl rises to stakes grade off a series of ratings races but they were winning ones. She loves this distance and loves this track and won't need to get as far back this week from the draw. Read More

Morphettville: Race 9 @ 5:35pm

The new John Letts Cup is the main race on the Adelaide card for Derby day. This is the old Tokyo City Cup and some of the usual subjects are going around. After being well supported last time but missing out, we think we can go again on the 3yo Alleboom for the Richard & Chantelle Jolly team.
