Mr Malek Provides A Late Christmas Present

3 minute read

Talented four-year-old Mr Malek appears well placed to return to the winner's stall when set to line up at Kranji on Sunday.

Due to contest the seventh event, Mr Malek has not been seen since finishing second behind Inferno in the Group 1 Lion City Cup [1200m].

In nine starts, he has only tasted defeat on three occasions, twice behind superstar galloper Inferno.

Rated 105 by Timeform, he is still a rung below Inferno, but who isn't.

The step up to 1400m should suit and he looks very well placed under the set weights conditions of the Kranji Stakes A event.

Already a winner at the mile, he is proven to be very versatile with five career wins over 1200m.

At this point, it's hard to determine what his pet distance is, though 1400m could be his sweet spot in time.

Brought along slowly by the Lee Freedman stable, he has continued to improve with each outing and is clearly trending the right way.

Had it not been for Inferno, he would be one of, if not the shining light in Singapore and he gets his chance to confirm that claim on Sunday.

Loved his most recent trial when finding the line well behind former stablemate Excelling, he looks ready to rock 'n' roll on Sunday.

From the middle draw he should get a lovely run in transit and with even luck, he should prove very hard to beat.

Talented sprinter Fame Star steps out on debut for the Leslie Khoo stable and has to be respected on best form.

While unable to fire at his last four starts, he is more than capable and looked good winning at his most recent trial.

From the inside draw he looks the natural leader and anywhere near his best and he is sure to be in this for a long way.

The Hideyuki Takaoka trained Jupiter Gold was a lot better than it first appeared in his long awaited return (616 days) last start and has to be kept safe.

A former Group 1 winner, he has obviously had his issues, but certainly has an engine.

Thought he closed off well enough behind Nepean and with good improvement expected second up, he cannot be taken lightly.

Of the rest, last start winner Nepean appears the next in line.

Good luck and happy punting.
