Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on January 2.
Major Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings today are held at Caulfield, Randwick Kensington, Eagle Farm, Ascot and Gawler.
CAULFIELD: RACE 8 @ 5:20PM
Terbium (1) has always been a talent but may be ready to really make the most of it now. Dominant first up in Adelaide and very wary of him on the back of that. SWORD OF MERCY (9) jumped out well and went right on with that first up at Flemington. Nice win and picked right up where she left off last prep. She showed there that she can back up good runs and given that it is easy to see her going really well again. OVERKILL (10) was a touch plain last time but 1100m may suit better. FINE DANE (2) ran well there and must be respected. SELECTIONS: Backing Terbium to follow up.

RANDWICK-KENSINGTON: RACE 8 @ 5:40PM
Small field so expect a slowly run battle of tactics. Snowfire (3) won well first up before game in defeat last start when a close fourth behind I Am Vinnie. Should be at his top now third up and has drawn to get into a lovely spot for Berry. Progressive and should prove hard to beat. CISCO BAY (4) simply got too far back last start when closing off well late. Another in-form galloper who has to be included. BADOOSH (1) should improve sharply second up, next best. SELECTIONS: Sticking with Snowfire.
EAGLE FARM: RACE 8 @ 5:08PM
Apache Chase can lead and there are a number who can keep him honest. Gotta Kiss (13) is ready to win after catching the eye at both runs this time in. Passed plenty in the straight when runner up to a handy one in the Listed Mode Plate at Doomben over 1200m last time. Kept up to the mark with a trial since and should enjoy the step up to 1400m having placed in a G1 behind Rothfire over this trip last campaign. PORTLAND SKY (2) resumes after finishing the maiden campaign with a G3 win at Moonee Valley in October. Won his only fresh attempt. Promising and a threat with even luck from the draw. PALLADAS (8) ran on and drew away for a dominant 2.8 length win at this track and trip last start. Going well and can measure up again. APACHE CHASE (7) ran a big race at long odds to place in the Gold Edition last time. Can give a sight again while STAROSA (14) is racing well and can be involved. SELECTIONS: Gotta Kiss to win up in trip third up.
GAWLER: Race 6 @ 4:11PM
Little Rich Boy has good early speed. Taken Off (2) hasn't been able to win since a spell but has given away good starts. If he could use the draw better he has the ability and has the support too. TONY'S REWARD (3) ran well his first go for the new stable. A firmer track could make a difference. PICARGO (7) will get a soft run to be around the placings once more. SELECTIONS: Taken Off gets the opportunity for that win.
