Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB thoroughbred meetings on February 4.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Doomben, Gosford, Kilmore, Pakenham and Albury.
DOOMBEN: RACE 5 @ 4:04 PM
HEY BIG SPLENDA (6) has placed both starts and the latest at the Gold Coast read well for this contest. Gets the rail and can take this out for the sharp barn with the extra fitness. MACEDON FLYER (9) debuts and owns a Gold Coast trial win. Rodd's booked and he's striking at 35% with the Guy yard. Expect the gelding to be very competitive. BETTER GET READY (2) resumes off a comfortable trial win and two starts back led here heavily-bet on debut beaten a whisker. A bold run is on the cards. HEAD LEGISLATOR (5) was gelded and just missed at Gosford first-up before disappointing at Randwick (K). The speedy galloper has been freshened and is a market watch.

ALBURY: RACE 7 @ 5:50 PM
ROPPONGI (5) needed it first-up and them improved missing 1.3L at Moe in better grade. He has more to give and McDougall's booking is a decent push. He is the one they have to beat. VALOYD (15) can win this at best and placed the latest at Benalla. She will be very competitive and could present at a good quote. KUROCAINE (4) has raced favourite the last two and has been knocking on the door. He will ride the speed and take running down. ENCIRCLE (2) resumes in easier and owns a good trial. She performs fresh and won't be far away drawn low with a handy 2kg claim.
SELECTIONS: Backing Roppongi to win.
GOSFORD: RACE 3 @ 2:25 PM
Consistent filly IMPRESSIVE LASS (5) has finished in the top four in all four runs to date and has placed over this track and distance, Is drawn to get a soft run in transit and this looks to be a suitable race to break her maiden. First-starter BOJACK (2) comes into this on the back of three trials with Clark being onboard for two of the trial wins. From the Waterhouse/Bott yard and may be the horse with the most upside moving forward. ARTIC (4) has drawn awkwardly but did place over this distance last preparation. PROVIDE (6) was thereabouts all four runs last campaign and has tuned up for this with a solid trial win at Rosehill. GOOD DEED (1) has placed over this trip and could feature again.
SELECTIONS: Impressive Lass to win.
PAKENHAM: RACE 4 @ 7:30 PM
CHOMPERS (3) has recorded placings at past two starts and did finish the race off solidly as an odds-on favourite last time. Is going to find the extra ground here a plus. Looks the testing material. SUPPRESSION (7) didn't finish the race off as expected last time when sent off favourite. That was only his second start so could be an improver here. MARIINSKY (5) has performed solidly in both career starts and looks up to a race like this. Should make a bold bid. TWIGGY POP (8) has finished in the money on four of last five occasions and again rates as an each-way chance.
