Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB thoroughbred meetings on February 8.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Bathurst, Wodonga, Albany and Muswellbrook.
BATHURST: RACE 1 @ 1:50 PM
GISELLE ANNE (2) had no luck here resuming and then was just nudged out in the Wyong Maiden as favourite. Draws to stalk the speed and she can win in this grade with the extra fitness. MYSTIC VEIN (4) has placed the last two and O'Hara will cross over and likely lead. He deserves the win and will be right in the finish reaching peak fitness. FAST PLAY (5) resumes and just-missed at Orange before the spell. She's trialled well at Hawkesbury and can come back further improved. The rail should advantage. ASSERTIVE ACE (8) has also trialled well for the resumption and would be a chance at odds if presented forward.
SELECTIONS: Backing Giselle Anne.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Bathurst Computer Card.
WODONGA: RACE 4 @ 3:00 PM
BROCCOBAMA (1) resumes here after closing off his last prep with a second place run at Wangaratta. Overdue for a win before a break and has trialled well. Has the inside and should go close. ZOULON (6) finished among the placegetters last start when third at Wagga over 1000m. On speed galloper who ran well fresh and has upside. TUROAR (3) did plenty wrong but wasn't far away on debut before another break. Fitter for a nice trial. Can return in winning form. TURN BACK TIME (5) has appeal.
SELECTIONS: Broccobama can get off the mark.
ALBANY: RACE 4 @ 4:46 PM
DEANGLES (1) is looking to go one better having finished runner-up at his past three starts here. Has had three runs over the track and trip for two placings and will be rock-hard fit sixth-up from a spell. Jockey Hall has had six rides for five placings and is the one to beat. WAR CLASS (2) has been good all three runs this time in with a win and two placings. Is a three-time winner at this track and a winner at the distance. Looms as the main danger. AWESOME AS (3) has been thereabouts at Bunbury of late and must be respected. CLASSIC JACK (5) will strip fitter second-up and has the benefit of gate one. CHASING CHAOS (4) rarely runs a bad race and one for the multiples.
SELECTIONS: Quinella 1,2.
MUSWELLBROOK: RACE 6 @ 5:10 PM
MOTHER'S MERCY (2) won twice in 58s and has raced favourite the two since in town and didn't have the best of it in either. Gets a low gate today and finds much easier company. Like Penza's booking and the mare can bounce back for the hot yard. CONTINUATION (1) made ground late on resumption and has strong city form over longer trips. This 1750m suits and he gets the blinkers again and the handy 2kg claim. BLACK STAR BOWIE (7) has won and placed both starts back and is in the mix with the extra fitness. THE BOROUGH (8) just missed resuming this grade on the Taree heavy and can build on that up to a favoured distance.
SELECTIONS: Backing Mother's Mercy.
