Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB thoroughbred meetings on February 19.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Canterbury, Moonee Valley, Morphettville Parks, Canberra, Benalla and Quirindi.
CANTERBURY: RACE 5 @ 7:45 PM
RUDDOCK (1) has had one start over this track and trip for a victory. Drawn perfectly in gate one and gets 2kg off with the claim. From a good stable and Day has been on board once for a win. Hard to beat. MACLEAY (3) has improved with each run this time in and should be rock-hard fit fifth-up. Has had two runs at the journey for two placings and should get all the favours for Parr from gate three. HARMONIUM (5) has been thereabouts without winning this preparation but should be at peak fitness now fourth-up. Can be in the frame. ROCK THE BELLS (7) is ready to show something third-up and Latham has had three rides for a win and a placing. JACK THE LAD (2) will be fitter third-up and one for the exotics.
SELECTIONS: Ruddock to win.
As a FREE Racing and Sports offer, below is the Canterbury Compter Card.
MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 3 @ 7:30 PM
OXLEY ROAD (5) is a well-related galloper that did a nice job on debut up the straight at Flemington. Gets on top of the ground this time but can make it back-to-back wins. Rates highly. FRESH (4) showed speed before knocking up when resuming at Bendigo. Fitter this time around and is capable of playing a major role. DARK HORSE (3) appreciated getting on the wet track at Flemington last time with an improved showing. Found form now and can continue the good work. ALL STARDOM (6) found the stakes company too rich last time after recording a good maiden win at Caulfield. Well placed here and is one not to be discounted.
SELECTIONS: Back Oxley Road.
MORPHETTVILLE PARKS: RACE 3 @ 1:55 PM
MOUNT MADEIRA (1) looks ideally suited getting out to 2050m. He finished off well in the Strathalbyn Cup last time and his previous at Murray Bridge is a strong pointer for this. MASTER OF ZERPRISE (2) is a winner this track and trip and was game behind Hobo Bob last timeout. He should be handy from a good barrier and looks a major threat. CHALLICUM (3) got back and finished off hard behind Bossy Britches at Naracoorte and is always thereabouts in this sort of grade. IGITUR (5) has a great record with four wins from nine starts this track and trip and he ran on well in the Strathalbyn Cup last time. EXALTED BEAST (7) was a good winner at Clare back in grade before racing on speed and sticking on well behind Hobo Bob last time at Murray Bridge. He'll make his own luck from a handy gate.
SELECTIONS: Mount Madeira each-way.
CANBERRA: RACE 3 @ 2:14 PM
CLOSE TO ME (6) won his Maiden by a space and then was spelled after racing favourite in better grade than this (not beaten far). Brings two trial hit-outs and she gets the run of the race from the rail. She's well-bred and promising and is definitely the one to beat. LUXURIAL (7) led and just missed first-up and has returned to racing a number of lengths better. She draws well and the second-up record is sharp. Draws to control the race and will be tough to get past and good odds. MANILA THRILLER (11) is one of three Dryden acceptors and she will be better for the 1.7L defeat here on resumption. She also goes second-up and the back-figures are strong. SHEPHERD OF FIRE (5) was close-up resuming in the Luxurial race and set for a good campaign. He has more up the sleeve and will race handy. WILFUL SOUL (1) is the shortest of the three Dryden runners in early markets and also deserves consideration.
SELECTIONS: Backing Close To Me to win.
BENALLA: RACE 5 @ 3:20 PM
RIVERDANCE LAD (1) has been going ok of late and sticks to BM58 company again. Looks well placed to win. SOMETHING FOXY (4) was beaten as favourite last start but the run wasn't too bad at Kilmore. Kept on and can do the same in this. SHIP OF DREAMS (3) is likely to need the run but with luck can place. JET JACKSON (8) didn't have a lot of luck first-up last time covering extra ground behind the smart Diesel 'N' Dust. Could be value and can't be left out. HIGHWAY TO SUCCESS (7) may not find it today but is likely to find this easier than the last start at Stawell. Will find a few better here but goes in exotics.
SELECTIONS: Riverdance Lad the win.
QUIRINDI: RACE 5 @ 3:50 PM
Good to see Sammie Clenton back in the saddle and she pilots BLACK SUNRISE (4) here. Has placed four out of five attempts at the distance and Clenton has had one ride for one victory. Will be fitter third-up and looks the one to run down. TIMEROX (5) has been good with two wins and a placing from just five career starts to date. Is placed at the trip and drawn well for Morgan. The main threat. VEGA DE LAGO (2) has won four times over the journey and has placed at this track. BRING THE JOY (11) is two from two this track and trip and has drawn perfectly in gate one. PHOTOGENIC (6) broke through last time for the new stable and can go on with it now.
SELECTIONS: Black Sunrise to win.
