3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB thoroughbred meetings on April 4.

Picture: Steve Hart

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Albany, Mornington, Sunshine Coast, Mudgee, Nowra, Penola and Stawell.

ALBANY: RACE 7 @ 4:45 PM

MAROCCHINO (4) will use the handy gate and placed at Ascot before delivering there this distance range in the 72 heavily-bet. The star rider sticks from that and carrying 55kgs the gelding clearly rates the one to beat. TOUCH OF SILVER (1) came off Listed grade to miss 1L in the Esperance Cup. He's trialled sharply since and should get every chance to go one better. BRUTUS MAXIMUS (5) won as expected here in in lesser grade at the Mile. First time the middle distance but gets the weight drop and is a place possibility for the form yard. CLASSIC JACK (6) jack is a stablemate whose been racing honestly. He's in the mix using the rail.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Marocchino.

MORNINGTON: RACE 5 @ 3:45 PM

ALOVELYBROWNHORSE (6) is lightly raced and progressing nicely. She hasn't been disgraced in two runs back from a spell in higher grade and looks ready to show here best here out to this trip. From her inside draw she can settle handy to the speed and she may have more upside than some of her rivals in this race. CHAMPAGNE FRIDAY (13) has started favourite at her past three starts all in this grade for a win and a second. She can run well again here despite an awkward draw. STARSPANGLED BABY (12) creates interest dropping back from city midweek grade where she wasn't disgraced. Keep safe. VON MYSTIC (2) has five placings to his credit this time in and is a must for the exotics. GOLD OLLIE (1) is capable of improvement here and has to be respected.
SELECTIONS: Alovelybrownhorse can get back to the winners stall here.

MUDGEE: RACE 1 @ 1:28 PM

Looks an ideal race for PRIMAL SCREAM (3) to kick off his campaign. Has been very good in three runs for the new stable with two wins and a placing from his past three starts. Tuned up for this with a soft trial win at Scone and is one from one at this track. The hardest to beat. IN FIORE (5) has been racing at harder Provincial meetings and loves this distance range with three wins and five placings from 10 attempts. The main danger. MISS MAYFIELD (6) has two wins and two seconds from her past four and gets 2kg off with the claim. In the mix. DENACE (4) finished second in that Primal Scream trial and has two wins and four placings from seven tries at the journey. ALASKAN AURA (8) is best of the rest based on some consistent efforts this campaign.
SELECTIONS: Primal Scream to win.

PENOLA: RACE 4 @ 2:04 PM

GOLDEN RIPPLES (2) finished eighth last start beaten 8 lengths at Morphettville Parks over 1250m. Big class drop for this and expecting huge improvement. Looks the one to beat. IS THAT SO (3) ran ninth last start at Strathalbyn over 1350m when beaten 8 lengths. Much fitter and likely to see sharp improvement. THANASI (12) makes return after three months. Placed 2/4 fresh and comes into calculations off the inside. ARACHNATTACK (11) scored his maiden win last time out at Bordertown and will be tough to stop again despite the wide draw. BULLET KID (9) has two placings from five runs this preparation and finished 5 lengths off the winner last start at Bordertown. Each way chance.
SELECTIONS: Golden Ripples can atone in this easier grade.

STAWELL: RACE 8 @ 5:30 PM

COUP DE TONNERRE (9) can be forgiven for last start when things didn't go his way in the run. He'll strip fitter here third up and he's capable of bouncing back. NOT A ZAK (10) stuck to his task well last start behind Frag after losing ground at the start. He can be put further into the race from an outside gate this time and if he finds cover he can go close up in distance. CATEGORY FIVE (1) disappointed last start and has a wide barrier to contend with. He gets the Blinkers on here and his best is good enough. Take on trust. RAISE THE COLOURS (12) is lightly raced and progressing nicely. She ran very well last start at Group 3 level against the Fillies and warrants plenty of respect here. COWLEY'S CREEK (6) is capable of sharp improvement third up, out to this trip and back on top of the ground.
SELECTIONS: Coup De Tonnerre can bounce back.

SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 4 @ 2:11 PM

DANEZEL (2) won here two starts back before running on soundly last time. Better placed on the roomier track here and forward showing expected. RUBY'S LAD (4) will be fitter for two runs back from a break. Looks ideally suited by the rise in trip here. Won't be too far away. KRAMERIC (1) appreciated the rise in trip when breaking through for maiden success last time. Can continue the good work here. MONEY SHOT (3) is coming off a break but has had a couple of trials in preparation for return and should not be left out of calculations.
SELECTIONS: Back Danezel.
