Houlihan impressive in Stawell Gift semis

Ed Ware and Luke Houlihan have clocked the fastest semi-final times in the Stawell Gift.

South Australian sprinter Luke Houlihan looks the man to beat for the 2021 Stawell Gift title after an impressive semi-final win at Central Park.

Racing off a mark of six metres, Houlihan won the sixth and final semi on Monday in 12.22 seconds.

Ed Ware (9.75m) clocked the fastest semi-final time of 12.20.

The other runners to qualify for the final to be run at 1420 AEST were Dion Paull, Sebastian Baird, Jake Ireland and Munashe Hove.

Defending champion Dhruv Rodrigues Chico (0.75m) was just edged out in a photo finish in the first semi by Paull (10m).

The winner of the 120m handicap race will pocket $40,000.
