Small waves have prompted organisers to postpone the start of the World Surf League's Narrabeen Classic in Sydney until at least Saturday.

Small surf has prompted organisers to call off the scheduled opening day of the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic in Sydney.

The World Surf League (WSL) event was to have started on Friday but organisers have postponed a start until at least Saturday due to the conditions.

"We have got a good looking forecast for the next few days so we're confident competition will get underway over the weekend," WSL's head of competition Jessi Miley-Dyer said.
