Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 17.

Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Ballarat and Tamworth.

BALLARAT SYNTHETIC: RACE 5 @ 3:00 PM

NAMAKWA (3) has just missed both runs back for a top yard and ran favourite the latest in better grade at Bendigo. He can use the rail and the 2kg claim assists with the weight rise. Raced well on this surface on debut and is clearly the one to beat over the longer trip. JUST YOU (1) was tracking well before a plain effort over the hurdles on a heavy track. Reaches peak and he can make the finish with the 2kg claim. CEARDAI (2) just found one better at Kyneton and keeps improving. Gets Mott for the apprentice and is also a quinella hope. BLAZING LACE (6) racing handy with the blinkers on and the claim next best.
SELECTIONS: Backing Namakwa to win.

TAMWORTH: RACE 3 @ 1:35 PM

EARL OF SANDWICH (1) over raced last start at Hawkesbury but had been going close in races prior to that. This is an easier task for him today. Leading hope. SUPER TED (8) finished fourth last outing at Taree on a soft track. Battled on well two starts back at Grafton to finish second. Last two starts have been good and just has to produce those efforts to be in the finish here. QUEST FOR HONOR (6) was no match for the winner but finished second in his first try at 1600m last start. Was still a great run and a repeat effort will see him go close here. LAPSEKI (10) is only early in her career but has shown some ability including a placing two starts back at Armidale. Rory Hutchings takes the ride and she looks a winning chance.
SELECTIONS: Earl Of Sandwich to lead all the way.
