Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 18.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Newcastle, Cairns, Port Macquarie and Moe.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 1 @ 12:50 PM
UPSCALE (8) came to the mile and improved sharply placing behind Squanto at Wyong. Clark sticks and can box-seat from the low gate. Reaches peak and can go one better. SIAN (2) missed a lip at Taree in a 66 and the longer trip will advantage. Keeps improving and a form rider goes on. COMME BELLA FILLE (3) is a former Kiwi in the on-song O'Shea barn and was in need of the first-up run. Has ability and will improve quickly this grade and distance. OAKFIELD CHEROKEE (9) has solid figures and can't be ruled out at a price.
SELECTIONS: Backing Upscale.

CAIRNS: RACE 6 @ 4:45 PM
TUTELAGE (1) has notched up two wins from four starts at Cairns and lifted strongly to claim the latest run at Townsville. Same rider aboard again who knows him well and has the inside. Rates a top winning hope again. BORELLA (5) wound up steadily when third last start at Townsville over 1609m. Covered ground there and with a better run will be tough to stop this time. PONDEROSO (7) placed second by 2.25 lengths last start at Mt Garnet and was a winner the start prior. Going well in easier but looks a strong each way chance here. GREYCLIFFE (2) will be rock-hard fit now following a nice effort at Mt Garnet last start when fourth. Peaks now. ROTH'N'BELL (4) was denied the hat-trick last time out when third at Gordonvale. Going well.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Tutelage.
PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 3 @ 1:45 PM
GALAXY BELLE (7) resumes for a leading yard and showed enough the first preparation to say this is winnable. She draws low and has looked extra sharp in the two Newcastle trials. Expect a bold return. PAXOS MISS (4) has switched from a Sydney yard and has also impressed in her two trials. The 1.5kg claimer will position her handy and she can prove a threat. FLYING SCOTSMAN (2) trialled well and raced favourite first-up at Taree finding one better. Gets a top hoop and low gate and fitter is a player. JUST LIKE LISA (6) resumes and was good at the back of the first preparation. She also a hope in a good contest.
SELECTIONS: With Galaxy Belle.
