Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 22nd May 2021

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 22.

Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Doomben, Flemington, Dubbo, Gold Coast, Wodonga, Carnarvon and Murray Bridge.

DOOMBEN: RACE 7 @ 3:18 PM

ZAAKI (5) has improved with each run in his first Australian campaign and was impressive in winning the Hollindale at Gold Coast by 2.3L last time. That is a traditional lead up to this race and he should be reaching his peak fourth up. Looks tough to stop. MUGATOO (2) has had a month off since the Sydney carnival where he was beaten less than two lengths in both the Queen Elizabeth and Doncaster. Kept up to the mark with a trial and if he reproduces his effort in winning the All Star Mile three back he is a threat. SIR DRAGONET (1) finished just in front off Mugatoo in the Queen Elizabeth and was a G1 winner of the Tancred before that. Drawn to get the favours and is a Cox Plate winner over a similar trip. Contender. SHARED AMBITION (7) goes forward and can give a sight off a Hollindale placing.
SELECTIONS: Zaaki will

FLEMINGTON: RACE 8 @ 4:10 PM

RIDING THE WAVE (10) was never in a position to land a blow at Warrnambool first up. Onto a firmer surface this time and back down the straight where he produced his best effort over the summer. Was a good second up winner last prep as well. OCULAR (14) did a good job winning a lesser race at Warrnambool and shakes a key chance. The blinkers go on to PANDEMIC (6) which can help and the straight course seems likely to suit his style. Can balance up and boom home. STREETCAR STRANGER (7) is winning and not dismissed lightly and neither is fellow South Australian DEXELATION (9) who ran a terrific race in the Wangoom and rates well off that.
SELECTIONS: Riding The Wave back to Flemington.

DUBBO: RACE 3 @ 1:22 PM

LEGAL ZOU (7) has been very consistent without winning finishing in the top five at five of his past six starts. Drawn to get a soft run from gate two and will be near peak fitness for this. Rates the testing material. LITTLE ZIPPER (11) hasn't done much wrong since joining the new stable placing at all three runs this campaign. Has run second over this journey and will strip fitter fourth-up from the spell. Looms as the main danger. MONTELVINI (6) has had no less than six trials in preparation for this and is drawn perfectly in gate one. Respect on debut. NOBLE BANNER (14) has placed at this track and can fill the frame. MIGHTY MINNIE (13) is usually thereabouts and can earn some minor money.
SELECTIONS: Legal Zou to win.

GOLD COAST: RACE 3 @ 12:26 PM

MONAAFASAH (5) got on the board here last time out after being well supported. Looks ideally placed again in this line-up. Expected to make a bold bid again. WARSET (2) has found form with two solid efforts at the Sunshine Coast. Form at the trip is OK and rates as a leading contender. HELMET HEAD (4) went about his work in good fashion at Ipswich last time. Is up in grade but small field suits. Has claims. HOSTAGE OF WAR (1) was off a break when run down late after leading last time. Fitter and should give a great sight again.
SELECTIONS: Back Monaafasah.

WODONGA: RACE 6 @ 3:09 PM

RED JEWELS (4) was beaten narrowly last start when well-fancied at Donald. Returns to a course that it goes well at and can atone. Can perform on wet or dry. MYSTERY DIAMOND (11) didn't have a lot of luck at Wangaratta when also in the market last start. Has a good case to atone in this field especially over the distance. A LONE HERO (1) needed the run a Werribee first-up and might be better suited on the turf here. Can be in the finish. SHIP OF DREAMS (8) will be suited if there is any rain about. Consistently thereabouts but might find the barrier tricky. Can be right in it otherwise. COUNTESS ROSTOVA (3) presents as a best of the rest prospect for exotics on recent form and might find a few stronger.
SELECTIONS: Red Jewels the win and quinella it with Mystery Diamond.

CARNARVON: RACE 6 @ 5:10 PM

MORDOR (1) pushed forward from a wide draw last time and sat just off the lead, eventually drawing away to score by 1.5 lengths over 1200m at this track. This is his optimum trip with two wins from three starts and is a leading contender. COUNTER DRIVE (2) doesn't boast the best winning strike rate but ran a strong race last time when third and beaten only 0.6 lengths over 1200m at Geraldton. Fair record at this trip with a win and six minors and is a leading contender. TUMUT RIVER (3) scored last time by a nose at this track and now steps up in trip. Shoulders a little more weight but he shapes as one to consider. RED EPIC (9) was safely held two starts ago then bounced back with a third at this track most recently. Encouraging signs last start and looks ready to run well again.
SELECTIONS: Very keen on first up winner Mordor.

MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 9 @ 4:30 PM

The big field will keep them running here and HIGHLY DISCREET (12) will love that. She was very sound in the Adelaide Guineas behind a good horse. Clear running at the right time and she goes close. ECHO BOOMER (10) tried valiantly in the Queen Of The South Stakes and her other form is very good too. EXALTED MAXINE (11) was much better here recently. She will be up there and trying to stave them off. SKILLED BUNCH (9) missed by a nose two weeks ago. Her best sees her a hope. FULTON STREET (8) can be placed if leaders are suited.
SELECTIONS: Fancy Highly Discreet.
