Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for June 23.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Canterbury, Cranbourne, Doomben, Belmont Park and Murray Bridge.
CANTERBURY: RACE 5 @ 3:45 PM
EL COHETE (5) goes well at this track with a win and a second from three starts. Rawiller was on board for that last start placing and sticks. Will strip fitter third-up from the spell and looks the one to beat. EIGHT DIAMONDS (9) showed good form last campaign before having a throw at the Group 1 Surround Stakes. Is a winner over this course and distance and is drawn perfectly for Berry in gate one. Right in this. MISS FOX (6) savaged the line here last time out and the extra 100m looks ideal. Has to be respected. EL BUENA (3) is a winner over this track and trip and is a must for exotics. MCGEEHAN (7) has placed first-up and is best of the rest.

CRANBOURNE: RACE 3 @ 1:30 PM
INYANGANI (12) did a big job beaten a lip on the Kilmore heavy and then got back from a wide gate at Wangaratta. That wasn't the place to be and she peaks now and gets the key jockey switch to Kah. Draws low and should take beating out to the middle distance. LUNARES (13) made further improvement placing at Swan Hill over the mile. She will use the low gate and will get every chance to run it right out. YESUGEI (11) has been threatening on the synthetic for the new barn. Is worth another chance at this trip and returning to the grass. TEMLEH (8) didn't miss by far at Sale and can build on that.
SELECTIONS: Backing Inyangani to win.
DOOMBEN: RACE 8 @ 4:34 PM
MCCOVEY COVE (7) was beaten a lip here resuming matching his best and will be better for the outing. Gets a top hoop for the apprentice and should be winning with average luck from the sticky gate. BEACHBREAK (4) needed the first up in better grade and is a capable galloper who can make sharp improvement. Draws out but Byrne sticks and can manage. EAST ASIA (11) rates well off the decent effort in Listed grade. Comes back to a sprint but is a player. DEPTHS BELOW (6) has claims second-up at a price following the near miss at the Gold Coast. Draws for a soft run and Callow sticks.
SELECTIONS: Backing the promising McCovey Cove.
BELMONT PARK: RACE 2 @ 12:04 PM
A lot to learn here with plenty on debut. ASTRAPE (7) has done everything but win placing at five of her six starts to date. The only time she missed a drum was when she ran fourth here beaten under two lengths. Is the most experienced galloper in the field and is drawn to get a perfect run from gate three. Looks very hard to beat. GYPSY GEE (10) has shown enough ability on the trial track winning three of her four trials. Only has to bring her trial form to be right in the finish here. WUHAN WARRIOR (11) failed on debut but that was in a much harder Listed race at Ascot. Connections must have had a high enough opinion of him to race him in that and he looks like a winning chance in this. HOOTIE DA BLOWFISH (5) has trialled well and it would pay to watch betting moves. NO DICE (8) is best of the rest. SELECTIONS: Astrape to win.
MURRAY BRIDGE: RACE 7 @ 3:05 PM
CELTIC VALOUR (4) came from well back to win this track and trip three starts back and was good behind Does It last time at Gawler. He has to overcome a tricky wide gate but should be in the finish. MR POCKET (5) is a handy horse who has placed at three of four starts here and the 1800m looks ideal. TANAKA SON (11) showed good improvement to win at Gawler last time and must be respected here. SHOTS (3) hasn't raced for a while but was a winner here last June and has appeal despite an awkward barrier. SMILING ASSASSIN (7) stuck on well after leading behind Does It last time and must be given some thought.
SELECTIONS: Celtic Valour to go one better here.
