Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on August 24.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Ballarat, Scone, Queanbeyan and Dalby.
BALLARAT SYNTHETIC: RACE 5 @ 3:00 PM
UNIVERSAL LADY (8) returned in nice order winning the maiden this track and trip and impressed. Has placed second up will be tough to hold out with the in-form John Allen retaining the ride. LICCIARDI (7) showed nice tactical speed fresh at Murray Bridge before fading late. Drops back in distance and gets a low gate. Will prove hard to chase down. THE BONT (3) rattled home to win here this grade. Has copped an extra 2kgs but will be climbing over their backs late. KOSOWSKI (1) showed good early muster before dropping away on the Pakenham Synthetic in a 64. Will take advantage of the pole and will stick on better at this level with the handy 4kg claim.
SELECTIONS: With the premier yard and Universal Lady.

QUEANBEYAN: RACE 6 @ 3:35 PM
MISS MANZANILLA (5) made sharp improvement winning the Maiden on the Canberra synthetic third-up as favourite. She raced handy and impressed. The in-form 2kg claimer should manage the sticky gate and fitter the filly can take the next step. KHALEEJ (1) had no luck behind Smugglers Run on the Canberra Acton and was doing his best work late. Always needs a good ride but is a player. LENNY'S LAD (3) was on-speed and won the Maiden on the same day over a shorter sprint. Gets a 2g claim today and will get every chance to run it right out. LITTLE HELA (2) gets an outside gate but was tracking well before that latest and can't be ruled out.
SELECTIONS: Backing Miss Manzanilla to win.
DALBY: RACE 7 @ 3:57 PM
ROCKY NUGGET (1) resumed this grade and raced on speed for a dominant win. Kept fresh for this and looks the one to beat again. AND OVER AGAIN (7) resumes after three-and-a-half months. Doesn't have a bad record overall and had won at only try here. Rates among the leading chances. RIVER SPAN (4) is backing up quickly after placing 10 day ago, running second at Gold Coast after losing on protest. Definite winning hope here and can make amends. SWAN ISLAND (10) finished third last start, beaten 2 lengths at Beaudesert over 1100m. Sure to make her presence felt. WAIT A MINUTE (5) makes plenty of appeal.
SELECTIONS: Hard to go past Rocky Nugget.
