Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 1.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Moonee Valley, Echuca, Dubbo, Moruya and Townsville.
MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 3 @ 6:15 PM
Adelaide visitor SMOKIN' VAL (2) went close when resuming over this distance at Morphettville Parks then took on the G3 How Now over 1200m at Caulfield last time and was not disgraced, beaten under three lengths. Yet to miss the frame in four runs at this trip. Proven black-type performer who is ready to win dropping back to a Bm70. SUGARTOWN (3) is the threat. Had a 46-day lay-off before closing strongly but finding one better over this trip on the Hillside last time out. Unsure where she settles from the wide alley but D Lane is the right man for the job. CUT IT OUT (7) is a key runner fresh from a 20-week spell. Opened last prep with a comfortable all-the-way win over this evening's course and distance, albeit in a weaker race than this. Big trial winner recently so looks set to run well. MOSSCON (4) was a shade disappointing last start but can improve on a softer surface with blinkers going on. NO FRONTIERS (8) races best when kept fresh so don't rule her out.

ECHUCA: RACE 5 @ 3:00 PM
GLITZY GIRL (5) showed plenty last preparation and spelled off a run in Listed grade. She was beaten a whisker resuming for the new barn at Sale and should be taking this out at the mile with the winkers applied first time. SINO WITNESS (9) just missed at Wangaratta improving again and will use the low gate. Should be at peak and can make the finish. ALLYROCK (3) raced on the same day beaten 1.4L at this distance surprising the market. Fitter again and will again be hitting the line. BLACK MONSOON (4) comes back in trip but is going well enough to fill out the top four.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Glitzy Girl.
DUBBO: RACE 1 @ 12:45 PM
A lot to learn here with plenty facing the starter for the first time. Of the raced brigade SCARZEL (2) has been knocking on the door this campaign with two consecutive runner-up finishes since joining the new stable. Gets the benefit of Searle's claim who has been on board for both placings and sticks. Will be right there when the whips are cracking if he gets any luck from the sticky draw. CAREER CHANGE (8) looked good on debut over this track and trip with a handy third when trying to lead all the way. Will have taken plenty out of that race day experience and gets 3kg off. Right in this. HENNESSY SIDESTEP (5) is a place hope with weight relief from the inside alley. KENDERESI (3) is from a good barn and must be respected on debut.
SELECTIONS: Scarzel to win.
MORUYA: RACE 5 @ 3:25 PM
GRAND PALAZZO (11) brought strong form to resumption and did a good job after an awkward start. Gets Cahill for the apprentice and has plenty up the sleeve. She's the one they have to beat. BLUE GLASS (4) has just been beaten all three runs this preparation. She's quick and can easily take care of the sticky barrier. Gets some gear tweaks and can make the finish. TYCOON TILY (2) had been threatening before leading and winning at Corowa. The Canberra galloper gets a 4kg claim today and a handy gate and has to be considered. THE DEEPEST SECRET (3) is also Canberra-trained and looked in need of the first-up run. Has placed 2/2 second-up and keep safe.
SELECTIONS: Backing Grand Palazzo to win.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 8 @ 4:12 PM
OSWANA (5) has missed a whisker the last two and will be suited over the longer trip. Peaks and should go close. JOHN BOOKE (8) deserved the 60 win at Cairns. Keeps improving and no surprise if he goes on with it back to the mile. SOLDATI (7) showed good early speed before lifting to score by 0.8 lengths over 1500m at Cairns. He's a decent chance to go on. BOOM GATE (1) has won the last three and Butler sticks. Has to lift again but is a chance despite the wide gate.
SELECTIONS: Backing Oswana.
