Sydney Specials: Rosehill – 4th December 2021

3 minute read

As a punter December is always good fun, Christmas either becomes cheaper or a lot more expensive, either way I’m looking forward to Rosehill on Saturday.

Unlike last week we have ourselves an improving track and a fairly decent card to have a gamble.

I'm sure you've heard me before claiming "beware the unlucky runner" however I find the Chris Waller trained Francesco Guardi too hard to ignore in the eighth event.

Only a recent import to the Waller operation, Francesco Guardi kicked off his maiden Australian campaign in Melbourne when seventh at Mornington over 1500m.

Sent to Sydney not long after he finished a close fourth behind Zoushack at Rosehill.

Dropping back to the mid-weeks for his next outing he was quite unlucky when a narrow second behind stablemate Born A King.

Travelling well coming into the straight, he got locked away on the inside and was unable to build any momentum.

Out late he sprinted well but was no match beaten just under half a length.

Off that performance he rates top and a key switch with McDonald aboard for the first time.

Drawn to land the coffin (leader's back) again trust McDonald to get him into clear air and with even luck he should be going very close.

Sticking with The Chris Waller stable in the seventh event with Welsh Legend.

Scratched last week due to the wet track she did enough first up to suggest she will be hard to beat.

Making her return behind Zoushack, Welsh Legend got a long way back before making up good ground late to finish a close fifth over 1400m.

Given four weeks between runs she has since trialled well at Warwick Farm over 1175m beating subsequent winner and stablemate Polly Grey.

A key switch with McDonald back aboard and she has placed in three of five attempts second up.

Two of her three career wins have come on her home track and while not a prolific winner she appears more than capable in this company.

When isolating her best form from the last 12 months she rates top on both form and speed figures.

On Thursday afternoon $6.00 was the best price around town which appears a more than worthy gamble.

Simon Dinopoulos' Tips:

Race 7 #3 Welsh Legend @ $6.00

Race 8 #1 Francesco Guardi @ $4.40
