Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 12.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Warwick Farm, Pakenham, Gold Coast, Balaklava and Ascot.
WARWICK FARM: RACE 3 @ 2:00 PM
LAVA (8) has been working up to another win and this looks a suitable event. Was a close-up fourth last time out behind Alakahan who has since gone on to win the Gold Coast Cup so the form stacks up. Will be rock-hard fit for this and looks the testing material. SOUND OF CANNONS (3) has placed over this journey and will be nearing peak fitness third-up from the spell. A former European who is ready to show something now. WRITING UNEXPECTED (7) has been very consistent finishing in the top four at seven of his nine starts this campaign. Has to be included. FEEL THE RUSH (2) drops back from Group 2 grade and gets 2kg off with the claim. In the mix. AKATINO (5) will be fitter now and can earn a cheque.

ASCOT: RACE 4 @ 2:24 PM
MATERIAL WITNESS (3) peaks and missed a lip here before delivering the easy CL2 win at Albany. Pike stays with him and the gelding clearly rates to win again getting a soft run from the rail. TIMELY OUTBURST (5) won the CL1 easily here first-up and seeks the hat-trick. Was heavily backed and is one that can challenge the above. SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK (1) won the CL3 here before spelling and that was easily his best effort. Lugs top weight but is good enough to manage. SMART PRINCESS (6) returned in good order and has more up the sleeve. Gets the handy claim in easier and will be around the mark.
SELECTIONS: Keen on Material Witness.
BALAKLAVA: RACE 1 @ 1:20 PM
GARRIRE (10) takes on the older horses but was runner-up on debut and ran well behind Brother's Shadow and comes out of the Listed Without Fear which is strong form for a race like this. SAVILLE (8) has trialled up well winning a recent Strathalbyn hit-out and must be respected. DEFIANT CAESOUR (5) is a former Victorian now with Travis Doudle and did have some market support on debut. WILD TYCOON (9) has been to the trials four times, has Todd Pannell and draws the inside. DELAGO LAD (6) is on debut and wears blinkers for the first time.
SELECTIONS: Garrire to break through.
GOLD COAST: RACE 8 @ 4:38 PM
SHIJIN (2) deserved the 75 win at Doomben and delivered by 6L on the heavy. Was outgraded there after and forgive. Gets the handy 3kg claim and can control the race from the rail. Gets conditions to suit and expect a bounce in this grade. JINX 'N' DRINX (13) has won and just missed the last two at Ipswich this level and peaks for this. Will push forward and can fight out the finish. JAKAMA (12) has had one blip in the string of nice efforts. Might have to find a touch more to win. TAVIS TOWN (19) resumes and won two-back at Eagle Farm and Rodd is a positive jockey booking and the wet track won't bother. Keep safe.
