Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 5.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Warwick Farm, Sandown, Doomben, Belmont, Devonport and Bordertown.
WARWICK FARM: RACE 2 @ 2:55 PM
TRIFACCIA (11) has competed at Group 2 level in three of her six starts to date including a third in the Reisling Stakes. Will strip fitter second-up and gets the services of McDonald from gate two. Looks very hard to toss under these conditions. HAYAMI (3) is a consistent commodity hitting the top four in all three outings and gets 1.5kg off with Sherry's claim. Can play a role in the finish. SIZZLE CHIC (8) is rarely far off them and can earn some minor money. AQUARIUS (1) is on debut and a market watch is advised. TAIZAI (10) best of the rest with the 3kg claim.

SANDOWN-HILLSIDE: RACE 6 @ 6:30 PM
BASARWA (3) looked a touch one-paced when resuming at Flemington but that was a fast race and it could set him up for a big campaign. Showed nice talent at his first Australian prep and now gets back to the mile for the first time since his third start which was at G1 level in New Zealand. Right up to winning this - and better. THE STAGER (5) came through a terrific form race to win by a space at Terang. Tougher now but earned a shot at this. MOKTAFFY comes off a nice maiden win here. Step up required now but has the right profile to do keep improving with racing. SELECTIONS: Fancy Basarwa has a big prep ahead of him that can get rolling right here.
DOOMBEN: RACE 7 @ 5:07 PM
LUCIFER'S LOOT (1) tried to lead all the way when resuming last start over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast but was nailed close to home. Will take a lot from that outing and with Nash Rawiller in the saddle he will be particularly hard to get past this time. HARD ROCK GIRL (4) returned from a lengthy break and was having her first run under Tony Gollan when a tidy third over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast last time out. Group 3 placegetter when trained in SA so she has the talent to test this field. ONE SHY RUBY (5) was well in commission and got the job done when resuming in a Class 2 over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast nine days ago. Has a touch of quality so with that run under her belt another big run is likely. LONGBOTTOM (10) has forgotten how to win but her record at this trip is impressive. One for the exotics.
SELECTIONS: Really good race to close. Backing Nash to get the job done on #1 Lucifer's Loot
BELMONT PARK: RACE 6 @ 6:35 PM
.SHE'S A SWEET DEEL (9) finished off strongly when beaten 1.75 lengths fresh at Pinjarra. Fitter, has the inside and the blinkers added. Looks tough to stop. SAVANIK (5) ran fourth last start at Ascot over 1400m when beaten 2.25 lengths. Talented mare and trip suits. Will be winding up strongly again. DANI BELLA (3) finished among the placings last time when third at Ascot and should be further improved. Another who will be finding the line hard. SUMMIT TRAIL (7) was slowly away when 11th last start, beaten 8 lengths at this track over 1600m. Best figures solid and can sneak a place at odds. CHOICE COMMAND (8) ran an improved race finishing midfield last start at Albany and looks suited. Worth including.
SELECTIONS: Stick with She's A Sweet Deel.
BORDERTOWN: RACE 4 @ 3:25 PM
SHOCK ALERT (1) only just got nabbed late in a far stronger field last start and would only need to repeat that effort to be winning here, especially from the ace draw. PLAISIR (2) has needed all three runs back this time in and will be on the quick back up here. He will notice the class drop this time and can upset them at some each way value. BRIABELLA (7) has been thereabouts all season and races best at a middle distance. Another honest effort can be expected. Include in all multiples. MILITARY PRESS (5) probably should have won a race by now but is seldom far away, so even racing against winners he should still be given a place hope.
