Only 19 more sleeps to Christmas Cup!

3 minute read

Preparations for this year's Bordertown Christmas Cup are well in hand. And if the pre-sales of tickets are anything to go by, the South East's fastest growing sporting event will be even more successful than ever before.

To be held on Sunday, December 14, the day promises something for everyone, from business and social groups to families and children. Apart from an exciting, full programme of racing, there'll be an abundance of local food and wine, great entertainment, and live music.

The kids will have a ball because 'Tinsel the Reindeer' is flying in for a special visit, Strawberry the Clown will be performing her magic and painting faces, and, of course, Father Christmas will be arriving with free bags of sweets for every child. But that's not to say there isn't anything on offer for the 'big kids'.

Local group, The Shamrocks, will provide a musical backdrop during the afternoon and the very popular outfit, Single White Female, will be performing from 5pm until well into the night, so there'll be plenty of time to party after the races.

The racing itself, is going to be brilliant. This increased prize money on offer this year means the Bordertown Christmas Cup is now the second largest stakes day in the South East. The Highlight of the racing programme is the Woolshed Inn Bordertown Cup, worth $20,000 plus trophies.

The growing popularity of the event has allowed the club to improve facilities both for patrons and racing personnel. These improvements will ensure a safe and smooth-running event.

The club also acknowledges the continued support of businesses sponsorships as one of the main reasons behind the resurgence of the Bordertown Racing Club. Along with the Woolshed Inn, the Tatiara Meat Company, MacKenzie Intermodal, Tatiara Truck and Trailers, Fielders, Bundaberg Rum and the South Australian Government all continue their support.

Three new sponsors - Gum Park Agistment, The Winnellie Hotel, and West End - are also part of this year's event.

General admission is $10, and Free for children under 18. However, as a special offer, the Club is pre-selling tickets for just $6. Look for the Bordertown Christmas Cup Advertisement in next week's editions of the Border Chronicle and Border Watch.
