SA Trainer Fined $6000

Stewards conducted an inquiry into the Analysts finding of the prohibited substance tranexamic acid in the urine sample taken from Cool Saab subsequent to that horse winning race 2 the Rating 67 Handicap at the Broken Hill St.Patricks Race meeting of the 28 March 2009.

Evidence was taken from licensed trainer Peter Blanch of North Plympton South Australia, Racing NSW Senior Official Veterinarian Dr Craig Suann and Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory Director Mr Andrew Vadasz (by telephone) assisted the inquiry.

Evidence in writing of a stable visit by Thoroughbred Racing South Australia Senior Stipendiary Steward Mr Phillip Anderson was tendered.

Acting under the powers of AR.177 Cool Saab was disqualified from its first placing in the Rating 67 Handicap at Broken Hill on 28 March 2009.

Peter Blanch pleaded guilty to a charge under AR.175h(ii) of having administered the veterinary product Vasolamin containing tranexamic acid to Cool Saab with such prohibited substance being detected in a post race urine sample.

Taking into account Blanch's prior clean record as a trainer of 17 years standing and his co-operation with the inquiry he was fined the sum of $6000.
