ATC Receives Building Excellence Award

3 minute read

The Australian Turf Club’s unique race day horse stall complex and multi-level car park at Royal Randwick has received a prestigious award just months after starting full operation.

The world-first structure, featuring 121 undercover horse stalls as part of an integrated racing and customer experience, won an Excellence in Construction Award for Public Buildings at the recent Master Builders Association event in Sydney.

The four-level complex houses 564-car spaces and is linked to the Queen Elizabeth II Grandstand by an aerial footbridge.

It allows user-pay customers to drive into Royal Randwick and enter premium hospitality and other spaces completely undercover.

The facility will be used by ATC, its Members and customers 52 weeks a year during race days and also non-race day events.

Judges praised its adaptive and innovative construction, and the minimal impact on existing buildings and operations around the racecourse.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said the race day horse stalls and car park were unique to any racing venue in the world and provided a premium experience for racegoers.

“There is not a building like this anywhere in world racing which has a modern horse stall complex but which also maximises airspace for the comfort and convenience of customers,” Mr Barkley said.

“These race day horse stalls and a car park directly adjacent to the track will further benefit the ATC’s business as well as make arrival and exit even easier for customers.”
