Lightning To Strike In The Raffles Cup

Star galloper Lim’s Lightning appears poised to notch up his second Group 1 success when due to contest Saturday’s Group 1 Raffles Cup.

An impressive winner fresh over 1400m, Lim's Lightning has won four of his five starts since arriving back in Singapore.

The 2018 Golden Horseshoe winner, Lim's Lightning won four of his first six starts before placing in the Singapore Guineas at three.

Sent to Australia not long after Lim's Lightning had eight starts in Australia for one win, returning a Timeform rating of 96 at Werribee.

Lim's Lightning had his last start in Australia in June 2020 before returning to Singapore.

Now under the care of Dan Meagher Lim's Lightning has quickly found himself back at the top and while yet to win at a mile it shouldn't pose too big a concern on Saturday.

Kept fresh (27 days) Lim's Lightning has been given a soft trial in-between and has won three of five attempts second up.

Leading rider Danny Beasley sticks aboard and has won three of four attempts aboard the six-year-old.

Under the set weights conditions he looks very well treated and if able to hold his form he is clearly the one to beat.

The Michael Clements trained Top Knight has been off his game in recent outings but has to be respected stepping up to the mile.

In seven attempts he has won three and on best form he is more than capable under these conditions.

A noted backmarker he will need the race run to suit but with even luck he should be very strong late.

He notably started the 6/4 favourite in the Kranji Mile earlier this year.

Stablemate Big Hearted is obviously in good form and he too has to be included in the main chances.

In 17 starts he has placed in 13 including seven wins and Kok has won two of three attempts aboard.

The drop back in trip should suit and he looked to move well in his latest trial.

Under these weight conditions he too looks well placed and looms as a major threat.

Of the rest the Steven Burridge trained Mr Malek appears the next in line.

Good luck and happy punting.
