Best From The West - July 29

3 minute read

Feature race on the Belmont card is the HG Bolton Sprint this week and the best bet is in that race.

First Among Equals had first run back from his tilt at the G1 Goodwood when getting too far back.

After two months off he returned over an unsuitable 1000m and missed by a nose.

He has to enjoy the 1200m more and even though giving away weight again to the rivals, he is 1.5kg better off than It’s It who beat him home.

We look like getting at least 6-4 on the day.

Earlier in the day, Royal Command is a promising three year old who can make it three wins in a row.

He came from just off the pace first up at this track and finished it off strongly.

With the very powerful combination of Grant & Alana Williams and William Pike teaming up again, it’s hard to get away from him.

We may still get a decent price in the black too.

Consistent five-year-old Profit Street took his record to nine wins and seven placings from 21 stakes in taking out his first win a stakes level here. He began fairly and soon dropped back to settle in last place in the eight-horse field before being taken deep rounding the home turn. He then sprinted quickly under 54kg on the Heavy 8 track to hit the front at the 100m and went on to score well. Flying Time was fifth (wide with cover) before moving up (three deep) nearing the home turn. He briefly hit the front at the 200m and then battled on well for second. Recent Beaufine Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner It’s It soon crossed to the lead. He then travelled well, held the front until the 200m and lasted to take the minor placing. The favourite First Among Equals was fourth, between runners, but was shuffled back nearing the home turn before making late ground for (4.2 lengths) fourth in sound effort under his top weight (61kg) in the affected conditions.
