Best From The West - October 7

3 minute read

The Dan Morton trained Roganella really caught the eye first up and should prove hard to beat in the seventh event at Belmont on Saturday.

Only lightly raced the son of Rogano has displayed plenty of ability and appears well placed to break through for his maiden win.

Ridden patiently from the wide draw last start, Roganella savaged the line late when only narrowly edged out behind Arrum Boy.

Despite still a maiden he rates highly off the back of his last start performance and is expected to relish the extra trip.

From the good draw he should be able to settle closer to the speed for Chris Parnham and shapes as the hardest to beat.

Concede the unbeaten Rockon Tommy looms as a major threat, however happy to side Roganella's way at the price ($4.00)

The Listed Birthday Stakes sees a number of talented types set to clash with the Jim Taylor trained Gigante well set up to perform well in the feature.

Back in career best form, Gigante won well first up before confirming that level of performance last start when only narrowly beaten behind Rebel King.

At the weights he rates highly off the back of that effort and he has drawn to receive all the favours on the inside.

He holds a distinct fitness edge over the market leaders (Man Booker, Great Shot and Silverstream) and can run a cheeky race at good odds.
