Best From The West - June 30

3 minute read

Not often we deal with a soft track in the West however it looks to play right into the hands of Pounamu in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes on Saturday.

While clearly no match for Material Man at both starts back, he now appears set to peak racing third up and is sure to relish the step up in trip.

Both starts to begin this preparation have been rock solid and the soft conditions should aid his chances.

The wide draw will again see him settle back in the field, however Pounamu shouldn't be that far off them in the relatively small field.

At his best he is well treated at WFA and confident he can turn the tables on Material Man.

In six prior meetings, the ledger currently stands at three a piece with Material Man coming up trumps the last three.

On best form nothing separates the two and hence given the market swing towards Material Man, more than happy to side with Pounamu.

Based on his form over the Summer he is arguably the best horse in West Australia and expect him to stand tall on Saturday.

The Team Williams trained Tellem We're Comin did a great job to win first up and appears well placed to go on with the job on the quick back up.

Returning over 1300m last weekend, Tellem We're Comin proved far too good over the concluding stages and is sure to appreciate the step up to the mile.

He'll need a bit of magic from the draw but trust in the Wizard to get him home.
