Sydney Specials: Rosehill – June 30

3 minute read

Rosehill plays host to a strong nine race card on Saturday which offers up a number of runners who possess each way appeal.

Don’t be put off by the current Heavy 8 rating as of Friday morning as perfect drying conditions over the coming 30 hours should have the Rosehill track in the Soft range.

Dreamforce is the first each way play of the afternoon who contests the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m).

The John Thompson-trained gelding has been superb since returning as a gelding this season, case in point when resuming last month with an eye catching win over 1100m at Randwick.

Usually one to go forward and lead, Dreamforce was snagged back to last from a wide draw and charged home to score a narrow win over I Thought So.

It was his third win in a row having wrapped up his last prep with consecutive successes over the Randwick Mile. Form out of the race has since held up well with I Thought So winning at Randwick last Saturday after placing in the June Stakes (1100m) on June 9.

What Dreamforce produced first up bodes well for the rest of his campaign and on Saturday he takes a step toward his optimum trip going from 1100m to 1350m.

The son of Fastnet Rock has an excellent second up record and also performs well over this trip.

Since being gelded, Dreamforce has won four of his six starts and has improved his master Timeform rating by 14 pounds.

The minor stalling point regarding the five-year-old is he has minimal experience on rain affected ground.

While currently a Heavy 8, Rosehill’s ability to dry should never be underestimated and Dreamforce racing on a Soft 6 surface by 3pm tomorrow is not out of the question.

The next race on the card is the Benchmark 79 ATC Owners Benefits Card Handicap (1500m).

It is a case of each way the field at present and of them, Prometheus has the most appeal.

The Snitzel gelding resumed over 1400m at this course a fortnight ago behind Flow in a Benchmark 95 Handicap.

Kicking off his prep in a race where he sat well outside of the handicap, Prometheus performed nicely, settling in behind the speed and sticking on well to finish fourth.

Along with added fitness, the four-year-old should relish the combination of a class drop and distance rise.

His second up record is excellent and brings some solid form from his last campaign, namely a success over subsequent Queensland Derby winner Dark Dream.

The Team Snowden-trained gelding has what on paper is a disappointing wet track record however looking through his five starts on rain affected ground, the majority of his wet track runs have possessed merit.

Twice a winner on heavy tracks, including here at Rosehill a year ago, Liapari caused something of an upset, flying the last 50m to get up on the line. He broke as well as any but soon drifted to settle fourth to last (rails) passing the 1000m. At the 600m he still sat well back, locked away on the fence and turned for home giving the leader five or six lengths. With plenty of racing room jockey Jay Ford eased him three widths from the rail improving to be fourth at the 200m, seemed flat at the 100m, accelerated into second at the 50m then flew the last few strides to grab an exciting win, his seventh and maiden stakes win. Dreamforce sat second before straightening, was alongside the leader at the 300m before taking over at the 200m and looked the clear winner only to be nutted in the last stride. Flow was third, one off the fence, turning in, ranged up at the 300m, moved into second at the 200m where he looked to have second sewn up but was also swamped by the winner. Favourite Jungle Edge led them turning in and co-led at the 300m then fought on well to hold fourth.
