Best From The West - July 7

3 minute read

The Team Williams trained Red Army has really caught the eye at his last two starts and now appears set to relish the step up in trip at Belmont on Saturday.

On the seven day turn-around, Red Army savaged the line last weekend when only narrowly beaten behind Bella's Idol.

A key sectional star and what was even impressive was the fact it was completely against the pattern of the day.

In seven starts Red Army is yet to miss the money and has always given the impression he would be at his best when tried beyond a mile.

Also no concern with Pike jumping off as it likely would have been a prior engagement (rides New Age for Bob Peters).

Drawn wide at his last couple Red Army has been forced to settle back in the field, however from the inside draw he can take up a much more forward position.

When winning over the mile three back, Red Army settled fourth.

At the weights he certainly appears well placed and looks to have a decent edge on his rivals.

The Brad Graham trained Beaucount should ensure a solid tempo and expect Red Army to be too strong late.

Little between Red Army and New Age in the early markets and while both progressive, firmly in Red Army's camp.

The Fred Kersley trained Mizlecki had clear excuses in the Belmont Guineas and is expected to bounce right back in the Oaks on Saturday.

A model of consistency, Mizlecki was forced to travel wide throughout and under the circumstances stuck on well to finish sixth behind State Prosecutor.

Her effort prior over the mile was very good and while on trial at the trip, her class should carry her a long way.

From the middle draw she is expected to get a much kinder run in transit and should take plenty of beating.
