Race Preview - 2018 Fillies Mile

3 minute read

The 2018 edition of the Fillies Mile from Newmarket looks wide open and a good betting contest in a division that has far from sorted itself out.

Pretty Pollyanna is undoubtedly the best performed in the race, being a Group 1 winner already, and having won the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes at the July Meeting in dominant fashion, but both of those wins came over six furlongs and there must be big questions about her carrying that form up to the mile.

Assessed Prices: Pretty Pollyanna $4.00; Zagitova $6.00; Hermosa $6.00; Beyond Reason $6.50; Antonia De Vega $6.50.

The Priceline comes up with a very compressed market headed by Pretty Pollyanna who would be a good deal shorter if not for those stamina concerns.

She remains the starting point, with her ratings head and shoulders above the rest who are all somewhat linked.

Anonia De Vega beat Zagitova on debut in a Newmarket maiden. Zagitova then finished on the heels of Hermosa in a Moyglare Stud Stakes that rated as a below-par edition.

Ballydoyle have a great record in this race, and have a competitive 1-2 punch again, but they are well below the likes of Rhododendron and Minding who have won this for the stable in recent years.

Beyond Reason was disappointing at the Curragh but she is better than that and her Deauville win prior to last time looks as good as anything on offer here away from Pretty Pollyanna.

Double figure odds are on offer and they look appealing given the open nature of the race.
