In a great result for Godolphin where two of the best performers fought out an exciting finish, Benbatl showed his quality if scoring his third Group 1 success at his Australian debut. He began well, settled in second place, got to the front at the 200m and then dug deep to score a narrow but most impressive win.

Blair House , having his second start in this country, settled in fifth place, on the rails, went to third on straightening, challenged at the 200m and the battled strongly for a very good (half head) second.

Humidor  raced back in ninth place, improved (between runners) at the home turn and kept running on well to take third in a photo.

The Cliffsofmoher  raced in last place to the home turn and caught the eye with his late-closing (2.6 lengths) fourth in a very promising effort at his first Australian start.

D'Argento  raced in second last place in the 11-horse field, went wide on straightening and kept running on well for (2.7 lengths) fifth.

Night'S Watch did well in fighting on for (3.5 lengths) sixth. Homesman worked to lead and then set a good pace from the mid-stages before tiring late for seventh while Unforgotten made good late ground for (3.9 lengths) eighth.
