Sydney Specials: Randwick - Oct 20

3 minute read

The Spring Carnival has largely headed south now however those who keep one eye on Randwick could be rewarded with some each way success.

The nine race program features some open races and it’s questionable whether it has even one favourite you can make a watertight case for.

Currently just into each way odds is Right Or Wrong who contests the Benchmark 88 Handicap (1400m) which rounds out the program.

While now a seven-year-old, the gelding has found a new level since arriving at the Maher-Eustace stable having finished second in his past two starts at this course.

Two back, the son of Manhattan Rain finished second to Trekking who has since come out and won the Testa Rossa Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield which itself has held up well from a form perspective.

Right Or Wrong was beaten last start by Maximus who contests Race 8 on the program so we again get another look at how his form lines stack up.

Only lightly-raced, the seven-year-old is testament to the horsemanship of Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.

Before making his stable debut at Sandown in August, the gelding had not raced since February 2016.

He has improved with each outing since then and should be peaking fourth run from a spell.

Getting to the 1400m at this point of his campaign shapes as being perfect and the drying track should also play to his favour.

Currently a Heavy 8, Randwick is expected to be in the Soft range on Saturday.

Right Or Wrong’s record in Queensland on Soft tracks reads three wins and a second from four starts.

The Chris Waller-trained Abdon profiles as another each way play contesting a 1600m Benchmark 88 Handicap.

The UK import returned to form last start when second at this course, class and distance a fortnight ago behind stablemate Zourkhan.

Bar a poor showing at Rosehill two back, the gelding hasn’t put a foot wrong without winning since arriving in Australia.

The son of Cacique should be peaking fourth run from a spell and has a sense of timing about him.

The market suggests Abdon’s race is an open one however on profile, the five-year-old arguably should be priced closer to $5 instead of approaching $10.
