It's a tricky Caulfield meeting with features The Manfred, The Adams and The Chairman's all starting points for the autumn ahead.
Those starting points are always hard to sort out - the fit versus the fast - but there are other races on the card that look more straightforward and it's the third race - a nondescript mares handicap - that throws up our best bet for the day.
That bet is Naantali who should be at the peak of her powers now with a good summer campaign under her belt. She peaked third up last time out but just found one better on the day. She faces a very similar looking contest at Caulfield and with barrier four and Damien Lane she looks extrememly likely to get the right run to reproduce that peak perfomance. That makes her mighty hard to beat and worth the gamble at the early quote which is edfing towards 2-1.
For an each way play we again skip the features and roll on to the last race where Mr Money Bags heads the betting. That's fair enough, he's been racing really well, but we really liked the run of Heptagon last time and think that he can give the race a big shake at around $9.00.
He was just fair first up, and went for a break on two down runs, so the jury might have been out on Heptagon but his latest was a sharp return to form and gives him a great look today.
