Best From The West : Ascot - 16th February 2019

3 minute read

There are two Listed races on the Ascot program this week but our best is not in that company.

Coming off some rich country races, the dominance of the wins suggest Neurological can continue the form today.

William Pike has won on him five times since September and he sticks here from a lovely draw.

The 4yo hasn’t lost his zest for racing despite a long prep and he is versatile enough to use the barrier or let them go if the speed is on.

He is used to carrying this sort of weight to victory so that should not be an issue either.

The value runner of the day could well be Assetro in the Listed Challenge Stakes.

She has had two runs back but had a trial since her last run to keep her ticking over.

The mile and beyond should be her go so maybe an Oaks path in time but there could well be pace on here from this start and if they overdo it, fancy she can run home fast.

That was her style as a 2yo and she did place in a Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot.

A lot of the rivals come out of midweek races or doubtful strength races so happy to speck her.

Grant and Alana Williams-trained/Bob Peters-raced stablemates filled the placings here with victory going to Creative Hero, who took his record to three wins from four starts in scoring. He began well and soon settled in third place, moved up at the home turn, hit the front approaching the 100m and then held on to win well. Regal Power was fourth on the rails, eased across heels at the 200m and then finished well when clear for a late-closing second, looking unlucky. Final Hearing raced in sixth place between runners, got clear at the 200m and then fought on to take third in a photo.
