Best From The West : Ascot - 02nd March 2019

Some black type races feature as we head toward the classic races in Perth.

We picked a horse two weeks ago and he was scratched but giving him another spin this weekend.

He was coming off some rich country races and the dominance of the wins suggested Neurological can continue the form.

William Pike has won on him five times since September and he sticks here.

The 4yo hasn’t lost his zest for racing despite a long prep and he is versatile enough to work over.

You have to like horses that keep on winning.

Even though she is only having her second start and straight to 1800m at Listed level, more than happy to take Dark Choice as a big hope.

The Redoute’s Choice filly came from near last on debut at Bunbury, making up a stack of ground from the corner.

She could end up an Oaks runner in time and hopefully won’t need to be so far back this outing.

Suspect we may get decent odds given Pike is riding the stablemate.

Owner Bob Peters continues his assault on Perth stakes races with his Adornment graduating from a maiden win here last month to stakes winner on just her fifth start. She was away first but dropped back to third, holding there past the 1400m then lost a spot near the 1000m. Jockey William Pike waited in fourth until the last corner, moved out three wide at the top of the straight, went after the two leaders and joined in at the 100m. Pike kept her going and she drew out to be more than a length up at the post. Vintage Stock sat fifth (rails) at the 800m, was fourth turning in, moved to within a half-length of the leaders at the 100m then stretched her neck just short of the line for a narrow second, just ahead of Brelleta Five who led them in, was headed but kept fighting to the line in a good lineup for the minor placings.
