Say From SA : Morphettville - 02nd March 2019

3 minute read

It is not an overly strong meeting in Adelaide in the lead up to the Adelaide Cup.

Al Passem
Al Passem Picture: Racing and Sports

Plenty of scratchings have knocked this meeting around.

Punters have already taken a great price but Al Passem is still worth a bet in Race 4.

He was making waves against much better horses during the Spring. Placed behind Land Of Plenty, Cliff’s Edge and also in the Sale Cup.

Looking to just camp on the leader Temps Voleur, he can ease out and give them the slip.

Like that Ken Keys has gone to Adelaide rather than taking on far tougher races.

In the following race, taking a speck that Super Swoop can do something first up.

Think it is only a positive that he resumes at the mile for a horse that can run over further.

It is a very even race and assuming he’s had plenty of work to be ready for this, he could even push forward.

Last year's Launceston Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) winner Bondeiger made it two Group 3s and seven wins in total with a clear win here. He sat second last (one out) of eight with a circuit to run and was equal last at the 1600m. He began his move from the 1000m and was three wide and closing at the 600m, ran up to be four wide and co-lead at the top of the straight then took over at the 250m. To the line he was too strong and was unpressured in a clear win. Sylpheed moved up three wide to be third at the 800m, co-led turning in and tried to match the winner for a few strides then kept on quite well for second. October Date was fifth, one out, at the 600m, took a while to wind up and was doing his best work near the end for third.
