We return to Caulfield for a perfect side dish to the opening day of The Championships up in Sydney.

Caulfield might not have the stars that are engaged up at Randwick but what it does have is a deep and entertaining betting card with plenty to keep us busy south of the border.

Our best of the day comes up in the listed feature, the Anniversary Vase, where a Melbourne Mail favourite Heptagon once again finds himself looking extremely well placed.

He has strung together big ratings this time in and none of them are better than his blitz over Streets Of Avalon at this course and distance three runs back. A repeat of that would leave the rest of these needing to do plenty to trouble him and there is little reason to think that he drops his bundle on Saturday.

For an each way play we are rolling back a race to the seventh on the card, a wide open and competitive sprint over 1200m.

There are plenty of winning hopes but at double figure odds we are happy to throw up Bandipur as a good gamble with his Flemington run last time solid back at 1000m and his fresh run rating really well.

The inside draw can give him the cheapest of runs and from there he just needs a split at the right time to be in the finish. He's in the lap of the gods there but at double figure odds we've got enough juice in the price to play.
