Despite being a rising eight-year-old, Malibu Style continues to race well, taking his record to 11 wins (18 placings) from 55 starts in recording his fourth win at stakes level here. He settled in seventh place, but just behind the leading group. He took a split at the 400m, hit the front at the 300m and then fought back gamely in the sprint home to win well. The favourite Milwaukee had a good trip under Damien Oliver, tracking runners in sixth place before improving at the 400m. He moved up nearing the 200m and then kept running on well for (half-length) second, a lack of early pace proving a disadvantage. Holy Blade raced in fifth place, not far from the leaders. He took a gap at the 200m and kept fighting well for third. Sirius Suspect was one of a group racing close to the lead and he kept battling on well to finish (2.2 lengths) fourth.
