Sydney Specials: Rosehill - 27th July 2019

3 minute read

Rosehill throws up a host of 6-4 favourites on Saturday, none of which a watertight case can be made for.

Connemara, River Bird, Ilwendo, Front Sight, Bon Amis and Greyworm all currently hover around 6-4 favouritism in their respective races.

It’s hard to tip any of these with any convictions at their current prices. A case could be made for each of these runners being under the odds meaning there is value to be found outside of them.

In looking to find an edge for Rosehill on Saturday, the anticipated firm track after a winter of heavily rain affected ground can be used to our advantage.

Oxford Tycoon in the Benchmark 78 Pacific Boating Handicap (1100m) is one of those who should appreciate getting back to firmer footing.

The son of Written Tycoon has placed in three of his four runs this prep, the latest behind Handle The Truth at this course over 1200m.

He loomed to win approaching the 200m on that occasion however peaked on his run late.

Whether it was the 1200m or the heavy ground which was undoing, Oxford Tycoon moves away from each of those variables on Saturday.

The colt’s best run this prep came first up over the same course and distance when beaten a half length behind Hostwin Supreme on May 18.

His lone career came when a dominant winner over 1100m at Wyong as a two-year-old.

Brenton Avdulla stays aboard and is generally viewed as Kim Waugh’s go to rider, with a strike rate of nearly 20% with 32 wins from 162 rides for the stable.

The pair should enjoy a cosy run in transit behind an anticipated strong early tempo and can deliver us an each way winner to round out proceedings.

Seaway has his second up outing in the Listed Winter Challenge Stakes (1500m).

The son of Ocean Park enjoyed a breakout prep earlier this year, recording two impressive wins at this course and distance in his first campaign as a gelding. So strong were the performances, Seaway at one point was being touted as a lightweight hope for last autumn's Doncaster Mile.

The four-year-old resumed in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) four weeks ago where he battled on well to run fifth despite a torrid run, trapped three wide with no cover throughout.

It was a strong run under the circumstances, enhanced further by the fact he is suspect on Heavy ground.

Four weeks later, Seaway returns to a firmer surface and his much loved Rosehill 1500m.

He appears well suited down in the weights and is yet to run out of the money second up from three prior outings.

Barrier 11 is a shade awkward however Tommy Berry can ideally find cover off pace due anticipated early speed potentially stringing out the field somewhat.
