Kolding gave his opponents few excuses after a slow start and a rousing fight-back finish here to add to his Group 2 Queensland Guineas success in June and take his record to six wins in 13 career starts. He dropped back to second last soon after the start and remained there to the 500m then pulled widest once into the straight. Maintaining a solid run he didn't level up to the leaders until the 150m but was immediately headed yet fought back and got the lead back again just short of the line, diving to get the nod by a head. Fierce Impact was fourth last (one out) at the 600m, still back turning in he didn't get clear until the 300m then squeezed through, accelerated to take what looked like a winning the lead at the 100m but the winner fought back late. Desert Lord led them into the straight, still led at the 200m but was caught at the 100m yet held on well for third. Cascadian was last turning in and never saw daylight until the race was over, finishing strongly between runners for fourth.
