Avilius, improved by two runs from a spell, returned to peak form with a very smart performance in recording his third Group 1 victory here. He settled back in second last place in the nine-horse field, improved (deep) on straightening, took the lead at the 100m and then drew away to score decisively. Dreamforce had a good trip behind the leader (Samadoubt) before moving up at the 600m. He went to the front shortly after turning for home and then battled on well for second, just finding the late-closing winner too classy. Happy Clapper had a nice trip in fifth place, got into clear running nearing the 200m and then battled on well for third. Verry Elleegant was midfield but racing a bit keenly before making an early move to race in third place (but deep). She then did well in holding on for (3.8 lengths) fourth. Angel Of Truth was a handy fourth to the home turn and held on nicely for (3.9 lengths) fifth while Samadoubt led the field to the 300m before tiring for (4.1 lengths) sixth.
