The Melbourne Mail: Caulfield - 1st February 2020

A hot-looking edition of the Manfred Stakes headlines a good card of racing at Caulfield this weekend.

The Manfred has a strong Caulfield Guineas flavour and looks like being an autumn shaping race for the Victorian three-year-old division but it's certainly a tricky betting heat with six of the seven returning from breaks and we are going to avoid it here.

Our bet of the day comes in a race that certainly won't be shaping the autumn carnival ahead. The last is a very ordinary 1400m handicap but it presents a great oppurtunity for early favourite Fabric to build on her return and set herself up for a good prep ahead.

Fabric drew barrier one first up and ended up in traffic and waiting on a run when she desperately room. In the end she had to push back to the inside which was hardly the A1 spot to be but she kept on well to be beaten just a length in a race where they ran good time for the grade and it should work as a great platform for a second up peak.

With little depth to the scrappy looking contest on Saturday she can chalk up a 'W'.

Sisstar has been getting better and better and went for a break on the back of a pair of sharp performances with ratings that say she is one of the key winning hopes in a deep edition of the Adams Stakes.

The wide draw can work for her in what promises to be a high-pressure race, allowing her to find her feet without having to scramble, and if she has continued to head in the right direction over the summer then double-figure quotes don't do her justice.
