Chris Scholtz reviews the Sydney barrier trials at Randwick on March 27.
RANDWICK March 27
Randwick A Grass/Polytrack; Soft 6
18 Heats – A Grass 15 Heats - 1 x 1200m (Open); 9 x 1050m (5 Open; 2 2YO; 2 Maiden); 5 x 740m (2 Open; 3 2YO); Polytrack 3 Heats – 2 x 1080m (1 Open; 1 2YO); 1 x 780m (Open)
A significant set of trials as they featured a big number of contenders for the major Group races coming up at Randwick over the next two weeks.
None worked better than NATURE STRIP in a very strong heat where he beat his old rivals SANTA ANA LANE and REDZEL in the fastest time of the nine 1050m heats (61.12; 34.40) with James McDonald swinging to him through the line. SANTA ANA LANE worked into it from the back in great style and looks ready to produce his best when they meet in the TJ Smith. REDZEL travelled strongly in the lead but the first pair had his measure on the line.
Nature Strip too speedy in a 1050m trial @royalrandwick on Friday, in what could be a TJ Smith Stakes preview, downing Santa Ana Lane and Redzel. @tabcomau @7horseracing pic.twitter.com/t8KBs35KhL

In the other 1050m there were a host of good performances, most notably from the winners GROUNDSWELL (62.22; 34.10), TREKKING (63.64; 34.40) and TRUE DETECTIVE (62.72; 34.60). Their efforts showed they are in the right form to perform strongly over the carnival.
An impressive performance from @FreedmanRacing's Groundswell as @mcacajamez took him through his paces in this morning's Trial pic.twitter.com/xo2d2oYg0p

ICYMI - Trekking won his trial this morning at Randwick under a nice hold from @JoshuaParr8 and is currently $15 with @tabcomau for the TJ Smith Stakes on April 4 @ChampionshipsRR pic.twitter.com/kv7Kqmda41

YAO DASH led from the start to win the 1200m heat under a ride (71.26; 35.00) from HOMESMAN. Behind them the standout effort came from Australian Cup winner FIFTY STARS who settled last before putting in impressive work over the last 150m to surge through the line in a perfect trial for the Doncaster. Other Doncaster hopes KINGS WILL DREAM and SHARED AMBITION were merely out for exercise and were given soft rides in their heats.
The Godolphin filly SPECIAL SNAP was impressive (again!) winning her 1080m heat on the Polytrack (63.10 (34.50). She has now won two recent synthetic trials and is ready for a suitable restricted race first-up.
True Detective jumps well and leads all the way to win his trial this morning with @Kathy_ohara in the saddle
