Sydney Specials: Randwick - 5th September 2020

3 minute read

Well Spring is finally upon us, the good horses are back, we are racing on a firm track and there looks to be bets galore.

Always a tad wary when I get this excited about a meeting, when it looks too straight it never is, though here we are, I'll be betting in every race.

The Chelmsford Stakes doesn't look very appealing at first glance, but when you consider the favourite Avilius is likely to be dragged to last, suddenly you have to find a bet (it won't be easy from back there).

Second favourite Angel Of Truth was only narrowly beaten on debut for Team Hawkes, but has to be a risk getting back onto a good track.

From seven starts he has only featured once, which was his maiden win back in November 2018.

Does look to lead in a slowly run race, but I'm not buying it, he looks well found in early markets.

Then you have his stablemate Zebrowski who closed off well behind Verry Elleegant, but again didn't get warm last preparation until 2000m and beyond.

Last time we saw him at this distance, he only gunned down Austria, faces a tricky map and looks short enough considering he was 30-1 in the lead up.

That leaves us with the Chris Waller pair Mister Sea Wolf and Shared Ambition who I think are the two plays in the race.

Mister Sea Wolf did enough first up over an unsuitable trip and has clearly been set for this, four weeks between runs and a nice soft trial on Monday.

He's placed in six of nine second up and 7/11 career wins have come on good tracks.

Drawn well, he possibly lands behind the lead and should be well positioned to score for Nash Rawiller.

As for Shared Ambition, he went too bad to be true first up when he simply didn't handle the track.

He should relish the firmer footing tomorrow, I just wish he drew a gate, if he did I'd be very confident.

A mile is still short of his best, but is unbeaten second up (3/3) and the booking of JMac is a decent push.

Loved his most recent trial behind Farnan as while finishing seventh his work through and past the line was very good.

He'll need a back to follow coming into the straight, but if he gets it, he has the turn of foot to reel them in.

Disappointed to see Masked Crusader scratched tomorrow, but it does leave us with a good thing in the last, the Brad Widdup trained Icebath.

Thought she went very well first up as while beaten she was very game and according to all the yard watchers she had plenty of improvement to come.

She gets every chance at the weights and from the inside draw expect her to settle a lot closer tomorrow.

Has a clear ratings edge and should be winning, over to you Bossman!
