After another superb Sydney carnival has finished, we continue on with big prizemoney on offer heading north to Newcastle.
I'd not be too worried about the track. Even with some rain on Wednesday through Friday, The Hunter race day should see the track at worst get back into the Soft 5/6 range.
The big race is one where you have to have an opinion and Top Ranked is such a fascinating horse. His European form beats these if at his best.
There might be some value earlier in the day in the form of Milk Man.
The 1850m start can be a little tricky, beginning right on the bend and while he is an 8yo, this horse is handling everything about his routine well.
He went to Brisbane and raced well then came home to score on wet ground at Warwick Farm before heading back north over this sort of trip and bolting in.
Obviously he's a happy horse, handles all going, is rock hard fit and is well placed after the claim.
Hard to see him not running well both totes.
Then to the last where it is really a consolation for The Hunter.
While Edit didn't make that field, this really sets up well. OK since he's arrived from NZ he's contested some unconventional races but they've been excellent.
A great first up win to get into the Kosciuszko, he came from last there to just miss the placings.
Then while totally outclassed in the Classique Legend on Golden Eagle day, he was hardly poor only five lengths back of the flying Eduardo and beat home many big names.
The long Newcastle straight can allow Kerrin McEvoy to balance him up and by Race 10 expecting they might be surging wide late.
