Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 14.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Gosford, Geelong, Esperance, Wellington, Townsville, Ballina and Cranbourne.
GOSFORD: RACE 5 @ 5:30 PM
FLYING WITNESS (7) has been placed in all three runs back and only just missed here last time. Extra trip a plus and clearly the one to beat. ROYAL COURT (4) made a very promising debut over a mile at this track, charging home from last into third. Fitter for that and looms as a big threat. AMARANTZ (5) ran a nice race fresh at Hawkesbury then disappointed as favourite at Newcastle. Entitled to another chance with blinkers going on. MADAM PRANCEALOT (8) and BRAVE BOY (1) are each-way chances.
SELECTIONS: Flying Witness to win. Trifecta 7-1,4,5,8/1,4,5,8.

GEELONG: RACE 6 @ 4:00 PM
HIGH TORQUE (2) had been threatening before winning this grade at Terang. Did that comfortably as favourite and despite the weight lift rates to repeat. PORT ROYAL (1) is also back in grade and go on the Benalla win two-back. The 3kg claim is handy and he can make the finish. UNIQUELY (7) has raced mainly in town and second-up was beaten 3L at The Valley. He will keep improving as the distances lengthen. AZNAVOUR (6) can win this at best and should be ready to show more. Bates is reunited and that's a plus.
SELECTIONS: Leaning to High Torque.
ESPERANCE: RACE 2 @ 2:10 PM
DOUBLE SPICE (1) was much too good resuming here for the new barn in a CL2. He brought compelling form from Belmont and rates to go right into it. NEUROLOGIC (4) is a leader who found his best leading and winning here 12 days ago also in a CL2. Uses the rail and is in well with the 2kg claim. SAUVEGARDE (2) led and missed a lip here on the same day and can place again reaching peak fitness. CITY RANSOM (6) has been a round the mark and is in well with the 2kg claim.
SELECTIONS: Backing Double Spice to win.
WELLINGTON: RACE 3 @ 2:57 PM
OLLIVANDER (3) found one better at Gilgandra last start but went down fighting by 0.5L. He's well weighted after the 1.5kg claim and is a two-time winner on wet going. He's the one to beat. LORD OF THE TURF (4) ran around in the same race as Ollivander latest when beaten 0.6L. Fit, but does have a question mark on wet tracks. Going well and is expected to be thereabouts again. JUNGLE RUSH (8) wasn't far away at Gilgandra last time out but was a winner on a wet track at Dubbo before that. Rates well and can make his presence felt. AVALICIOUS (10) faces a steep rise in grade but it may play into her favour. Soft track winner previously and any market moves must be respected.
SELECTIONS: Expecting Ollivander to go one better today.
TOWNSVILLE: RACE 7 @ 5:19 PM
TENNESSEE WHISKEY (1) has won his last two with the latest as favourite travelling south to Mackay. Is back 200m but the top hoop sticks and the gelding rates to go on with it. CONQUERING JUDAS (3) has won two of the last three and the latest stacks right up. Will likely settle back from the rail and that's a query. LIGHT FIELD (6) peaks and is busting to win. Runs along and just has to see out a strong mile. BRAVIO (5)has been racing well and is in the mix if things go his way.
SELECTIONS: Backing Tennessee Whiskey.
BALLINA: RACE 8 @ 5:50 PM
BEAN FOGGY (2) came from fourth on the turn to win here as the favourite last start. Is going for a hat-trick of wins and from a good draw should go close to achieving that. IMPRINTED (3) won at long odds last start at Coffs Harbour over 1315m and is another runner seeking a hat-trick of wins. Hard to see him not going close given his recent results. AMERICAN SAINT (6) won well enough at Warwick last start over 1200m when fresh-up to suggest that she can carry on her winning way here, one of the main chances. ILOVETHEGAME (9) came from 12th on the turn to finish third of 14 runners at Coffs Harbour over 1315m. Improving run last start and rates as a leading each-way show.
SELECTIONS: We like Bean Foggy to win again.
CRANBOURNE: RACE 6 @ 8:15 PM
HEREFORAGOODTIME (11) has looked promising since being tried over ground and put the writing on the wall with the closest of second placings last start, she has won her only start on the course and should go one better today. HANDFUL (5) is improving at each run and was a solid fifth off a tough trip last start, he is reaching peak fitness third up and from the ace draw should be right in the finish. OCEAN HEART (1) ran her best race for sometime last start and arguably could have won had she got clear racing room in the straight. She gets a significant jockey upgrade with John Allen taking over the reins and a big effort can be expected. ROCK THE BOWLER (3) is a stablemate to the top selection and will appreciate escaping from the city class races that he has been contesting. He is one of many in a wide open race with solid place claims.
