Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 19.
Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Newcastle, Sandown, Ipswich, Oakbank, Belmont.
NEWCASTLE: RACE 6 @ 5:15 PM
MIHOCEK (1) got the job done last time out and looks ready to go on with it now. Palmer was in the saddle for that last start victory and sticks. Rates the testing material. CATAPULT (2) has been racing predominantly at metropolitan level and will appreciate the drop in grade here. Has placed two from two at this track and looks a genuine top-three candidate. MYDEEL (3) hasn't done much wrong with two wins and two placings from four starts and has earned his shot at provincial grade. In the mix. TOOMAI (4) has won two of her past four with Wheeler in the irons on both occasions. Gets 3kg off again and has to be included. DANISH PRINCE (9) rarely runs a bad race and is one for the exotics.
SELECTIONS: Mihocek to win.

SANDOWN-LAKESIDE: RACE 2 @ 4:15 PM
THRONTARI (3) ran a sound race at the Valley when fresh then took a nice step forward second up. Strong run and further improvement here would see her mighty hard to beat. Think that she makes that and think that she wins. Biggest danger can be CHERRYPICK (4) who got off the mark in good style at Cranbourne last time and looks like measuring up to this deeper race now. MISS MIDDLE PARK (6) also arrives off winning a maiden at Cranbourne. Not quite as impressive as Cherrypick there but she is open to sharp improvement. CARDIGAN QUEEN (1) will get over further than this but can certainly run well on return. Has shown good ability.
SELECTIONS: Throntari is ready to peak and win.
BELMONT PARK: RACE 8 @ 7:07 PM
SHE'S A SWEET DEEL (7) made it 3/5 winning comfortably here second-up heavily-bet. Should find a good spot in the run and keeps the in-form hoop. Fitter she can go right on with it. DANI BELLA (3) missed 1L in the same race improving again. Has the speed to manage the sticky gate and has a handy 2kg claim today. Should go close. SPILLINOVA (1) brings different form-lines and was only beaten 1.8L at Pinjarra the latest in better class. Gets the 2kg claim and is a hope holding that form. SATURN BLACK (12) also rates well on the 1.5L miss here and can't be ruled out with the weight relief.

IPSWICH: RACE 5 @ 3:23 PM
STAR GAMBLE (4) was spelled off the near-miss at Doomben and brings a sharp trial to resumption. Has been gelded and is sure to have come on. Byrne rides first time and will give him the run of the race. DUBAI DEE (10) resumes for a perennial high-striking barn and has been well trialled. Draws awkwardly but the top hoop is booked and that's a decent push. MORE TO ADORE (6) resumed for the premier barn and had no luck as favourite the only start last preparation. Thompson will position him handy and expect him to go well. SO FIRED UP (3) debuts with the blinkers on. Gets a sticky gate but may prove next best.

OAKBANK: RACE 5 @ 4:00 PM
BRAZEN BOY (1) resumed much improved leading and placing at Gawler. Disappointed after at The Bridge in a touch stronger when just in the market. This suits much better and the speedy gelding draws to advantage. A bounce is likely. DAZZLING HARMONY (3) has been plain the last two but the Maiden win three back was big. Has a low gate and 2kg claim and an improved run won't surprise. MORPHETT ROAD (5) has been racing in better grade and gets Holder for the apprentice. In the mix along with GOLDEN RIPPLES (7).
SELECTIONS: Backing Brazen Boy.
