Sydney Specials: Hawkesbury – 30th April 2022

We head to Hawkesbury on Saturday and I’d be lying if I said I was enthused by the move.

As a whole I try and avoid Hawkesbury at all costs but it is easily their best meeting every year and barring some scratchings on Saturday morning, this meeting shapes up pretty well.

The Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas presents a decent betting opportunity with the Team Hawkes trained Mr Mozart.

A surprise winner of the Phar Lap Stakes two back he confirmed that level of performance last start when too strong for subsequent winner Our Playboy.

Kept fresh (33 days) he appears very well placed and looks to get all the favours on-speed following the scratching of Coastwatch.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings he sits clear off his last start and only looks to have to repeat that level of performance to be winning again.

As much is 2-1 (TAB) is being offered about his chances on Thursday afternoon and more than happy to bet up at that price, have him closer to an even money shot.

Lines up against a few promising types, however they've got to make a jump to get to his level.

The Chris Waller trained Brookspire was far from the Punters' Pal (including myself) last preparation however confident we can collect in her return.

She was beaten as favourite in three of her four starts but from a ratings perspective she continued to return form good enough to be winning on Saturday.

A key switch with McDonald back aboard and map looks to work out perfectly with good speed up front.

Will need a touch of luck slotting in, however she should be able to stalk the speed before being produced in the straight.

Handles all conditions and with even luck she looks very hard to beat.
