Gold Coast’s big metro Saturday (apart from that glitzy one in January) is Hollindale Stakes day when they get a lot of high quality horses moving into the carnival.
Naturally the way the track plays and the surface are always a key around here but with any type of fairness, thinking Gypsy Goddess just wins the Bracelet on her way to the Oaks.
Looking like she joined in first up at the mile, she went to Newcastle for the Vinery and that drop back in ground given the circumstances just stunted her second up.
She was then very brave in the Australian Oaks after that and after a month between runs, she resumes here at 1800m but against very weak fillies by comparison.
Willie Pike has now had two sits on her in a race so he can let her blend into it from the 600m and swoop over the top.
Any impressive win means the current odds in the Queensland Oaks look very inviting too.
The kiwis often target Brisbane in the Winter and the truckload that are heading north this year is extraordinary.
One of them is the 3yo Sword Of State who ran in the Coolmore Stud Stakes before a short let up then won two G3s at home.
From this lovely draw, Opie Bosson can either take control of the race and lead them or have a soft run on the back of that speed.
Given it will be a little affected, they should fan on the corner so a run can present but he is more a dominating type.
He's another that appears so well placed at the Set Weights scale of the Guineas.
